Free Play Store Keyword Tool

Find the app-store keywords worth targeting, then watch the title builder squeeze them into Google Play’s 30-character limit — instant, deterministic and free.

How to use this Play Store Keyword Tool step by step

App Store optimisation is won with three keywords placed precisely, not thirty stuffed loosely. This tool generates the candidate list, scores each one for opportunity and then builds your title and short description inside Google Play’s character limits.

  1. Seed with the phrase users actually search

Enter what your app does in plain words — “invoice maker”, “workout tracker” — not your brand name, because users search for the job, not the label. Turn on question and Hinglish variants if India is a priority market; those long-tail phrases carry strong install intent.

  2. Shortlist by opportunity, not popularity

Sort the results by the opportunity column — it blends modelled popularity with how contested the term is. Head terms like “camera” score high popularity and near-zero opportunity. The sweet spot is mid-popularity phrases with competition you can beat as a new app.

  3. Let the builder fit your 30-character title

Tick up to three keywords and watch the title compose itself inside the limit, starting with your app name. Keep exact phrasing: keywords only count when the words appear as typed, and the coverage checkmarks tell you instantly which picks survived the cut.

  4. Spend the leftover characters on the description

Any keyword that missed the title belongs verbatim in the 80-character short description — the preview sentence users read before installing. Weave the remainder into the full description naturally, then validate against real queries in the Play Console search reports each month.

Frequently asked questions

Everything people ask most about the Play Store Keyword Tool — straight answers, no signup required to act on them. Have a different question? Reach the team from the Pro page and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

Is this Play Store keyword tool free?

Yes — generation, scoring and the title builder all run in your browser. There is no scan limit, no account and the CSV export comes out clean. The paid ASO suites ration this because it is their storefront; we give it away because it shows what our Pro platform does at scale.

How does the 30-character title builder work?

Tick up to three keywords and the builder composes “App Name - keyword” strings greedily, appending only what still fits inside Google Play’s 30-character app-name limit. Any picked keyword that does not fit is flagged so you can place it in the 80-character short description instead.

Where do the popularity and competition scores come from?

A deterministic model reads each keyword’s structure — phrase length, modifier class, exact-seed overlap with head terms — and maps it to stable popularity and competition figures. They are directional estimates for prioritising, not scraped Play Store counts; Pro adds real search volume and app-level competitor data.

Does it work for the iOS App Store too?

The keyword logic transfers, but the character limits shown are Play’s — Apple also caps the name at 30 characters but adds a separate 30-character subtitle and a 100-character keyword field with different rules. Use the exported list as your research input and rebuild the metadata for iOS separately.

How many keywords should go in my app title?

One or two, written once. Repeating a word to double its weight does not work — Google indexes the title as text — and padded names risk policy rejection. The highest-opportunity keyword belongs in the title, the next two in the short description, and the rest in the full description where they still index.

Do keywords in reviews and descriptions affect ranking?

Install velocity driven by search behaviour matters more than raw keyword density anywhere. That is why this tool scores opportunity, not just popularity: a term you can realistically rank for generates the installs that, in turn, lift your ranking for the neighbouring terms.
